32 Hours Later . . .

Back about a week ago we headed out from KC in our Pathfinder for a little trek across the States. We had a few speaking engagements planned out east and we needed to store a few items with my folks which we are not going to be taking with us when we move to Singapore in November. . . Yes, our move has officially been postponed and we'll write more about that later . . .

32 Hours after we pulled out of our driveway in KC we pulled into my folks' driveway in Delaware. It's always fun (and I think I'm using the term "fun" extremely loosely here...) when you have a 17 month old baby girl who loves to be "outside" running "free" and yet, finds herself "inside" a car "trapped"! We decided to drive through the night- which worked but you still have day-time hours to deal with also... As you can probably guess, there really is not driving through to our destination with a little one like this! But, it's the journey and not the destination that we are to focus on, right!? :-) Honestly, we did just that... we stopped, played, ran around, and then Timmy drove the entire time- did I just write that?! Oh, by the way, did Danielle tell you how much fun it is to drive 32 hours as a 6 month pregnant woman too?

We made the journey full of adventure . . . McDonald's, D&D, Starbucks, Rest-stops, Gas-station excursions, and a nights adventure with the Prichard family in West Virgina! Thank you John and Drema for your gracious hospitality and baby-sitting volunteerism! Natalie had a glorious time and our rest was a tremendous help for the second leg of trip.

Well, here we are in Delaware after a weekend of speaking engagements in the Northeast (which we will talk about in our next post... I'm trying to keep these shorter!) and enjoying the wonderfully warm weather. But before we sign off on this post we would like to ask for your deep thoughts, prayerful companionship, and hopefully solidarity in fellowship over a few items in our lives:
  1. Our upcoming speaking engagements
  2. Our upcoming site-visit trip to Singapore. Danielle and I are going alone, so with it comes a good deal of emotional turmoil while being filled with excitement over what we hope happens while we are there...
  3. The continued need for people to join the Whetstone Partnership: Fellowshipping Together and to contribute financially - You never know Natalie might give you a call about it?!
  4. Our continued work with World Mission in developing this new model for deploying missionaries. While also preparing for our future assignment in Singapore.
It seems as though, we have found ourselves living patiently yet again in a waiting period. However, after some reflection, this waiting period may not be such a "period" in time. That is, could it be that as we live in relationship with our Father and others we are to always be waiting for His next leading YET, one and at the same time actively engaged in what He truly has for us in the moment?

Is He asking us to participate in "pointing beyond ourselves" at every moment to a "place of healing"? And could that healing source - our Abba Father- be found even in the waiting room? We are starting to believe so. Maybe these words from Henri Nouwen might help since they have resonated well with us most recently.

"The Word of God is not a word to apply in our daily lives at some later date; it is a word to heal us through, and in, our listening here and now."

May we be a listening and obedient family living out the Word which is in us, daily!
